How to go out in Palma de Mallorca

Would you like beautiful beaches during the day and lots of fun at night? Palma de Mallorca is the right choice. As in any other place in Spain, also here you’ll have to adapt your timings to the typical Spanish ones. Everything starts later, and so does dinner. Usually people eat around 10 pm and, during the weekend, nobody goes dancing before midnight. Specially when friends meet to have a drink, they then go to clubs around 2 am. No worries, these close around 6 am, so you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the night and maybe also the sunrise by the sea. The most common days to go out are Friday and Saturday, but here there’s always something to do. Daytime events aren’t very common, but when they take place, they start around 4 pm and finish around 4 am. If you’re lucky enough, you’ll be able to live the happiness of an elrow party. Public transport in Palma de Mallorca is almost totally absent and this makes it difficult to move around the city. You’ll have to get well organized because, of course, drinking and driving is strictly forbidden. Until no long ago, before going to a club it was very common to meet at a public park with friends to do the classic Spanish “botellón”. As a consequence of the recent prohibition of drinking in the streets, now the tendency is to meet directly in a bar. This at least reduces the usage of cars. Although, if at 6 in the morning you still don’t want to consider going to sleep, you’ll have to get organized to drive: at 20 minutes from Palma de Mallorca there’s one of the very few after parties.
As said, the nightlife of Palma up to a certain hour is concentrated in bars. The most popular are in the area of Paseo Marítimo, in between the cathedral and the harbour. Here you’ll be surrounded by PRs, but don’t worry, in the worst-case scenario you’ll have obtained a free shot or a discount in some club. After a few drinks, everyone moves to the “garitos”, small clubs on the beach or underground. In this area you’ll find clubs such as the famous Tito’s or Marsalada. In Santa Catalina’s area instead, there are other famous "garitos" such as Sabotage, where they play rock and indie music, or Sala Luna, where on Fridays there are the techno nights by R33 and on Saturdays there are gay parties. Nearby there is also Brooklyn, a very good alternative for the techno lovers. If instead you want to spend a calmer evening, maybe enjoying a live jazz concert, then La Lonja is the right area for you. Paseo Marítimo is mainly commercial. In all the garitos, especially the ones on the beach, you’ll listen principally to reggaeton, commercial music and house music. You can find all the other music genres all around the city. As mentioned, after parties are not so common here. The most well-known is outside Palma, and it’s a small underground Berlin style "garito", with a massive sound system. This is one of the very few places where you’ll be able to continue dancing after 6 in the morning.
Going out in Palma de Mallorca won’t make your wallet cry too much. You’ll pay a cocktail in between 6€ and 8€, and a beer in between 3€ and 5€. It always depends on the place you choose. As for club entrances, you’ll pay in between 10€ and 25€, depending on the night and, as usual, on the guest. If you are patient enough to cope with all the PR’s stories, you might be able to save some money on the club entrance. You won't need a cloakroom here, but if you do, you'll pay 2€ for it. The price for a shot.
Palma is a sea place, mainly filled up by tourists. There are no big rules of style, also because many people go out to party in bars. In the clubs and smaller venues, as usual, it’s the type of music that sets the rules. In the venues on the beach, such as Tito’s, you’ll have to go well dressed; they could be fussy. In the other clubs instead, techno or rock for example, you can go dressed up more comfortable; nobody will tell you anything. Of course, you can’t wear flip flops or a tracksuit.
